Formula
Dry volume = Wet volume × 1.54. Cement = Dry volume × (cement ratio ÷ sum of ratios) ÷ 0.035 m³ per bag. Steel = Volume × typical steel density for the element.
Worked example
10 m³ of M20 slab: about 81 bags of cement, 4.2 m³ sand, 8.4 m³ aggregate and 800 kg of steel.
Assumptions
- Nominal mix ratios; design mixes from a lab may differ.
- Steel densities are typical for residential buildings; follow your structural drawings for actual quantities.
- Includes no wastage allowance; add 3–5% when ordering.
Frequently asked questions
- How many cement bags per m³ of M20?
- About 8 bags (403 kg). M25 needs roughly 9.5 bags and M15 about 6.3.
- How much steel per sq ft of slab?
- Roughly 3–4 kg per sq ft of built-up area for a complete RCC frame; slabs alone use about 80 kg per m³ of concrete.
